SINGING WITH DRUMS

Salvatore Meccio comes from Sicily and carries with him the sounds and rhythms of his native land. Filled with numerous voyages, meetings and musical projects, he put down his suitcase in Switzerland in 2009 and began giving percussion classes within the framework of the Ateliers d’ethnomusicologie.

Massimo Laguardia listened to a lot of traditional music before opting for the tamburello and the music of Sicily and southern Italy. The development of activities with his partner in crime Salvatore led him to move to Switzerland, and they now give drum classes together all over Swiss Romandie. Since this time they have continually pursued projects and concerts, and have even released a CD entitled Trinacria.

During this course they will teach students to synchronise their drum playing with singing. They will introduce different vocal techniques, teach some songs from southern Italy over duple and triple rhythms, before then combining and layering the two (depending on the abilities of each participant).
