INTRODUCTION TO PERSIAN MUSIC

Musician, performer and teacher Hossein Rad was born in Tehran. From a very early age, he started learning the radif (classical Persian music repertoire) on the setar. At the same time, he followed Persian vocal classes under D. Mehrparvaran and percussion with Farid Kheradman and Djamchid Chemirani.

He will introduce his students to Persian song and pass on the musical foundations and techniques specific to the zarbikhani. Still strong in Iran, Turkey and all of central Asia, this ancestral method of initiation to classical Persian music allows the student to familiarise his or herself with the different modes, but also to explore the rhythms and acquire numerous vocal techniques.

Open to all, this workshop is aimed at lovers of Persian song, music and culture, but does not require prior knowledge of the language or music. The more advanced students will have the opportunity to develop their knowledge thanks to this method and repertoire, which is rarely taught these days.
