Originally from Cameroun, Serge Dupont Tsakap learnt traditional dance among the troupes from his village. In 1990, he completed his training in Afro-contemporary dance while working with Cie Nyanga Dance, the company with which he toured internationally. In Cameroun, he joined Merlin Nyakam’s company, which he followed to France, before participating in numerous creations with diverse Afro-contemporary dance companies. At the same time, he has been leading workshops across the world.

Drawing on the repertoire of traditional Cameroun gestures and movements, his classes are based on listening to rhythms and the interior elements of movement. These facets highlight the deep meaning of the dance steps. The linked exercises lead to choreographies, which are in turn threaded through with little histories to dance to.
