Jazz, flamenco, Eastern and Indian music, and tango all feed into the passionate repertoire of Renaud Garcia-Fons. The ‘Paganini of the double bass’ has demonstrated his incredible range at the sides of famous jazzmen (Michel Portal and Mino Cinelu) and the prodigious oud player Dhafer Youssef. If the French soloist moves the bow across the five strings with flair, it is nevertheless to the tune of Derya Turkan. It is within the melodious, poetic and intoxicating world of the Silk Moon Duet that all the vitality and expressiveness of his art will come to the fore. The Turkish musician, master of the kemençe and travelling companion to Necdet Ysar, Murat Ayedmir (lute) and Kudsi Erguner (ney), shares here with Garcia-Fons an inordinate thirst for the exploration of the eastern maqam, Andalousian cante jondo and classical Ottoman traditions. At the crossroads of these genres and hemispheres, a captivating universe reveals itself.
