This colourful performance presents an extract from the Ramayana, the great Indian epic. Ravana, the demon king who reigns on the island of Lanka, has kidnapped the beautiful Sita, the wife of Prince Rama. Hanuman, the monkey king, crosses the ocean to free her. Later Ravana visits the garden where Sita is prisoner in order to seduce her. She refuses his advances and curses him for having separated her from Rama. Hanuman, hidden on a tree, reveals himself as Rama’s messenger and consoles Sita: thanks to the army of monkeys, her husband will defeat the demon and rescue her.
