CHRISTINE SALEM
The queen of the Reunion Island's maloya
« Larg Pa Lo Kor »
INDIAN OCEAN // Alhambra
Christine Salem : vocals, kayamb
Seb Martel : guitar, harmonica, vocals
Ary Perigone : backing vocals, percussion
David Abrousse : djembé, dundum, tama
A strong and charismatic personality, Christine Salem is one of the rare female singers of maloya, the singing tradition from the island of Reunion. Accompanying herself on the kayamb, her preferred instrument, she takes her deep voice through songs in Creole, Malagasy, Comorian and Swahili with the deeply moving maloya, a subtle mix of African rhythms and music from the Indian Ocean. Simultaneously anchored and free, as intimate as it is generous, the musical universe of Christine Salem personifies, with striking energy, a culture in constant evolution.
This concert will be recorded by RTS-Espace 2
