The Franco-Moroccan singer Aïcha Redouane is one of the great performers of maqâm from the Near East. Her encounter with Habib Yammine inspired her specialisation in Sufi song and the Nahda repertoire (Arab cultural renaissance in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries). Their work is based on mystic poetry, and setting the texts of great authors, such as Râbia Al-Adawiyya, Ibn Arabî, Al-Hallâj and Ibn al-Fârid, to music. Between composition and improvisation, Aïcha Redouane’s mystic songs express the spiritual development of a path of love and light.
