FROM THE BOSPHOROUS TO THE AEGEAN SEA
The musical encounters between Greece and Turkey go way back, and even if their shared political history hasn’t always been harmonious, the two nations share numerous musical characteristics. In fact, these two musical traditions seem to be two halves of a whole: the understanding of one is key to approaching the other. Whether it is the scholarly music inherited from the Ottoman and Byzantine courts, or the popular music of the towns and countryside, these repertoires are served up by a troupe of highly skilled artists, who desire to strengthen the ties between their respective musical cultures.
