Voies du rebétiko

The film Voies du rebétiko draws on the rebétiko tradition and tells its story, as well as the persistence of its myth. The documentary also explores its transmission and contemporary status.

Filmed in the little taverns of Greek ports, and even in prison, the intense images create, in the space of a night, an imaginary topography of this popular art.

A topography of memory as much as desire, where places and times are superimposed, where the voices of the great rebétès mix with the noises and fury of modern Greece.  (Timon Koulmasis)
