ENSEMBLE ILIOS
concertMusic of Greece
Whatever the setting maybe, during marriages, cafe shows or in concert with a group of dancers, the Ilios Ensemble is dedicated to the various facets of Greek music. The traditional music, dimotiko, as well as the dance that accompanies it, traces its roots back to antiquity and is still very much alive today in all the regions of the country. With the arrival of the Greek emigrants from Asia Minor in 1922 came another style, the rebetiko, which is recognized as the music of marginalized peoples. Over the course of the years, this music has adapted itself to the evolutions of society and has modernized in order to touch a greater public under the name of laïko, which means "popular".
