concertHindustani music
'Anhad' is an Indian philosophical concept, which refers to sound that exists without having been made. The Anhad group approachs Hindustani music through melodic khayal, which allows for improvisation within the ragas (the melodic framework of Indian classical music.) Due to its flexibility khayal evolved in the Mughal courts as an alternative to the rigid dhrupad. It rapidly became the most popular vocal style in contemporary Hindustani music.
