Istanbul remains the capital of Ottoman classical music, a refined art developed in the Sultan's court. This music of numerous vocal and instrumental compositions belongs to the great tradition seen in the Arab world and Central Asia. Murat Salim Tokaç is a master of the long-necked lute (tanbur). His ensemble is recognised as one of the best in Turkey. His repertoire comes from ancient sources and highlights the delicate vocal and instrumental timbres.
