MARACATU
A dancer in the famous Maracatu Nação Pernambuco company, Dadinha Gomes is from the Pernambuco region. She teaches Brazilian dances and is a recognised professional who has received several prizes and accolades. The maracatu comes from 17th Century Brazil and was originally a festive procession with songs, dance and percussion organised by freed men and slaves that parodied the Portuguese court. Classes will focus on the maracatu and coco, firstly through the discovery and explication of steps and then through choreography of the studied steps.
