A remarkable composer and performer of Mediterranean, Eastern and medieval European music, Efrén Lopez is also a virtuoso multi-instrumentalist (hurdy gurdy, oud, rubab and fretless guitar). After his first love – rock’n’roll – he plunged into Cretan, Turkish, Persian, Afghani and Indian music, under the tutelage of reputable masters (Ross Daly, Necati Celik, Daud Khan…). In this workshop, which is aimed at musicians who already demonstrate proficiency on their instruments, Efrén experiments with the practice of modal music through the creation of compositions, arrangements and improvisation. The class focuses on melodic aspects and asymmetrical rhythms, and includes an introduction to Turkish and Indian rhythms. The ability to read a score is recommended, but not essential.
