Kevyan Chemirani immersed himself in Eastern and Mediterranean music at his father’s side. A prolific and curious musician, he masters several percussion instruments (zarb, Iranian daf, udu, bendir and the riqq). Influenced by Mediterranean modal music and the great jazz performers, he has many fruitful collaborations with respected musicians from a range of traditions under his belt. This course is for melodic and percussion instruments. He tackles the rhythms of modal eastern compositions and uses melodic modal play and different tempos (organisation of beats) as a door to improvisation.
