We have a general idea of African music that has been predominantly informed by several prestigious musicians - griots of the modern world, spokespeople for constantly changing urban societies. Spectacular dance and percussion ensembles that have made us move to the sounds of djembés and balafons help to reinforce the image of a bewitching Africa, one of great communicative energy.

But beyond these clichés, the musical resources of Africa are of a richness and diversity which remain largely unknown. From Mali to Comoros, from Ethiopia to Congo, from Zimbabwe to Senegal and Niger, the lyrical Africa that we invite you to share in brings us expressions of subtle music, moving voices and delicate sounds – all of which are to be savoured.
