THE WORLD OF MONGOLIAN OVERTONE SINGING
Souffles des steppes
The meeting of Epi, a virtuoso of Mongolian khöömi or overtone singing, and Henri Tournier, flautist and disciple of Indian master Hariprasad Chaurasia, opened up a soundscape rich with adventures – yet avoiding the pitfalls of a simple multicultural collage is not without challenges.
But out there where aesthetic and ethical consequences merge, the musicians of the Souffles des steppes quartet managed to unite around the same vision, for each knew how to draw from their own experiences and how to share their instruments, vocal techniques and singular languages.
The result is a world filled with the vast stretches of Mongolian countryside, like in the dreams and legends of nomadic horsemen and shamans. An extraordinary universe of tones, diphonic vocals and the multiphony of flutes and percussions – now there is an exceptional experience to which we are all invited!
