EASTERN EXCHANGES
Duo : Vasilis Kostas and Layth Sidiq
The laouto player Vasilis Kostas and the violinist Layth Sidiq met many miles from their respective home countries while they were students at Boston’s Berklee College of Music. The former is Greek, the latter Jordanian-Iraqi. Their duo reflects the increasingly frequent and rich exchanges that enliven our contemporary world; a place where crossovers, mixtures and fusions ring out.
These two brilliant instrumentalists are also particularly inventive composers who seek to capture the magic that emerges when following the thread of their tradition, their inspiration and their journeys. They never get lost, even when they borrow from jazz or Irish music. Their personalities express themselves with such force, in a generous and inimitable language. The public is guaranteed a rare musical collaboration.
