Trallalero, one of the distinctive cultural identities of the city of Genoa, is the fruit of fertile exchanges between the musical traditions of the Apennine mountains and the songs of Genoa’s dock workers.

Celebrating love, the beauties and uncertainties of the city and of life, trallalero seeks, above all else, to move the hearts of its listeners. Its spirited melodies combine a falsetto, evoking the divas and castrattei of the bel canto, with a light tenor – as much the heroes of Italian opera as of canzone popolare.

Both are guided by the improvised vocals of the ‘voice of the guitar’, the rhythmic punctuation of the baritone, and the rich harmonies of several deep basses, thus creating one of the most original forms of polyphony in the Mediterranean. The squadra genovese perpetuates this tradition with passion and raises it to the highest artistic quality without ever forgetting its popular origins.
