JASSER HAJ YOUSSEF - TRIO SIRA
The tree of maqâm
Jasser Haj Youssef trained at the confluence of Eastern and Western music. A free spirit and ever curious, he has always sought to nourish his song with a multitude of influences.
From Sousse to Paris, from the roads of India to Turkey, this musician of Tunisian origin takes care to follow the spirit of the tradition, yet doesn’t hesitate to head off the beaten path, get away and innovate. Undoubtedly the same applies to the art of playing maqâm (melodic modes), which some Arab masters compare to a tree of multiple branches with solid roots.
Whether he is composing or improvising, nothing seems to be able to hold Jasser back when he sweeps the inventive musicians that form his trio along with him. This is a marvellous adventure in space and time, as the the baroque viola, or the viole d’amour, sings the arabian maqâm…
Jasser Haj Youssef : violon, viole d'amour
Gaël Cadoux : piano, piano Rhodes
Marc Buronfosse : contrebasse
A discussion with musical illustrations, Love of maqâm, Jasser Haj Youssef and Fabrice Contri, is hold on Friday the 9th, from 6.30 to 7.15 pm.
