LOVE OF MAQÂM

Jasser Haj Youssef has chosen to express himself (in addition to the violin) on the viola d’amour. The warm sound of this fiddle, which comes from the Western baroque tradition, is often compared to the human voice: powerful in the bass notes and gently melancholic in the high notes.

With marvellous intuition, Jasser has gathered together all that connects this Eastern instrument historically, technically and poetically. This results in subtle effects, notably within the melodic universe of the maqâm. He introduces us to this essentially passionate art.
