NAWAL
The voice of Comoros
Part 2
Nawal : song, guitar, luth gambusi, flute, mbira
The very beautiful music of this Comorian singer is restrained, meditative and delicate, as she transports her listeners to the core of their emotions. Unaccompanied or highlighted by the numerous instruments that Nawal plays (gambusi lute, flute, mbira, framed drum, guitar), her deep and profound voice is entrancing. Her repertoire mixes personal creations with ancient and traditional songs, which are equally inspired by African (notably Bantu) and Sufi music. She may well be a descendant of one of the most venerated spiritual masters of the Comoros.
Nawal has been performing professionally on the international scene for twenty years. She has performed concerts throughout the world as a soloist, and has also performed accompanied by choirs and instrumental ensembles. Her last solo CD 'Caresse de l'âme' (2011) offers an intimate, poetic and powerful journey through the diverse soundscapes of her native archipelago.
