Irish music in the internet era

As with numerous European music traditions, Irish music has traversed dark and thriving periods.  Without several revival movements, certain musical forms and instruments would have disappeared; others would not have sprung up.  This “identity” music has helped create Ireland’s image.

While this music is recognised as “typically” Irish, it was nevertheless the object of multiple exterior influences.  So what is the process that creates musical traditions? How are do they survive when they are largely globalised?
