KANZEON

The film’s title refers to Kannon, the Bodhisattva of compassion. KanZeOn offers a meditation on sound and its function in Japanese Buddhism. Filmed in Kyushu, it follows three musicians: Akinobu Tatsumi, a Buddhist priest who is also a DJ, Eric Fujii, who plays the ancient mouth-organ (shoo), and finally Akihiro Iitomi, Noh theatre master, kotsuzumi drummer player and jazz musician in his free time.
