VOCAL SPARRING
Great Masters of overtone singing
The goal of this programme – put together especially for the release of Anthology of Mongolian Khöömii (Buda, 2016) - is to showcase all the contemporary and diverse khöömii practices within the timeframe of a concert. Chosen from the great current masters, this exceptional gathering of 11 overtone singers and a long-song performer calls on us to experience this prodigious vocal technique in full flight.
During this genuine vocal sparring, the listener wanders to the rhythms of a tradition steeped in movement. This encounter also introduces us to the numerous instruments from the Mongolian tradition: the lute (tovshuur), fiddles (ekel and morin khuur, ‘goat’s head fiddle’), cithara (yatga), the flute (tsuur) and the Jew’s harp (tömör khuur).
