HEAR AND UNDERSTAND MONGOLIAN KHOOMII

For over ten years Johanni Curtet, musician and ethnomusicologist, has made countless trips between France and Mongolia. He has met and recorded hundreds of singers in order to understand and spread awareness of khöömii (overtone singing), and Mongolian musical culture in general. His talk, combined with vocal demonstrations and musical examples, provides us with several keys that help us to understand this distinctive vocal technique and the context for its performance.
