With music that evokes Central Asia’s steppes and the gallops of its horses, the Egschiglen ensemble comprises singer-instrumentalists, a dancer and a repertoire acquired from their ancestors through oral transmission. Overtone singer Amartüvshin Baasandorj comes from one of the most illustrious khöömii families. Trained by his father and uncles, he sings in the pure style of Chadmani, his native village in the Altai.

As Mongolia opened up in the early 90s, the international movements of Mongolian musicians intensified. It is within this context that the members of Egschiglen moved to  Germany and developed a musical project of more professional design, and were received at numerous festivals. This pioneering ensemble’s programme arranges traditional songs to pieces of Mongolian classical music, with the addition of dance, which reinforces the evocative power of the music.
