MORE INFODiverse Africa, current Africa
We invite you to experience a current Africa, one that is teeming with influences – ancient and recent, close and faraway. Contemporary African music production expresses this modernity and the continent’s diversity in a variety of ways : the surging flights of a brass band from Benin; South African vocal polyphonies dressed in new instrumental textures; the traditional lyre and other Ethiopian instruments going electric; the intimate complicity of a transcultural duet; even the contribution of rap to the Senegalese griot tradition. All of these creative undertakings are celebrated at Geneva’s Alhambra from 18 to 21 May with five concerts, a dance workshop, a show for the younger audience, two films, a photography exhibition and various encounters with the artists.
