DOUBLE CONCERT Alhambra - 1st part
Temesgen Zeleke: krar lyre, masenqo viol, vocals
Genet Assefa: vocals and dancing
Grum Begashaw: kebero drum, percussion
This Ethiopian trio, based in London, performs music that is centred on the krar, a six-string lyre from Ethiopia. The band leader Temesgen Zeleke is an old student of the Ethiopian jazz legend Mulatu Astatke. Krar Collective serves up a savvy mix of traditional Ethiopian jazz music and Western influences – essentially rock and funk – to deliver hypnotic rhythms. The sound of the krar blends harmoniously with the striking voice of Genet Assefa.
This concert will be preceded by that of KALA JULA, Mandingo melodies.
