(ALGERIA)

Born into a family of musicians, Salim Fergani learnt the malouf from his father, sung poetry (hawzi) from his grandfather and the lute (oud el-arbi) from his uncle. His learning continued under numerous masters, to the point of becoming a living encyclopaedia of Constantine music. His mastery of the repertoire, his virtuosity on the lute and his human qualities make him a fully accomplished artist.
