There are many different types of orchestras (gamelan) in Bali. Some of them are spread across the whole island, whereas others, such as the Terompong Beruk from Bangle, exist only in a single village. This album brings together several pieces from the traditional repertoire of this unique genre of gamelan, which has never been recorded before. It also includes its adaptation of the Gamelan Gong Kebyar on modern instruments and another original creation that comes from the contemporary repertoire.
“The singing is quite something, and the only point of reference for many Western listeners will be the polyphonic singing in countries such as Bulgaria” (Songlines)
