Maciré Sylla - Sarefi
From her youngest age, Maciré has devoted herself to performance. As a soloist singer and dancer for the African Sun Ballet and then for the group Fatala, she toured across Africa, Europe and the USA for ten years. In 1997, she released her first album which became a huge hit in all of West Africa (more than 200 000 copies sold in three months). In 1998, she was awarded Best Singer of the Year in Guinea.
"Maciré Sylla and Cédric Asséo (who delivers some stunning contributions on the Maninka flute) have created a set of intricate arrangements that shine a wholly new light on the vibrant musical traditions of this West African nation." (Songlines)
“Maciré offers a very successful mix of traditional music and jazz, with realistic and positive lyrics about kindness, love, death, humanity, women, indifference…” (Ethnotempos)
