In Rajasthan, brass bands are generally sought after for weddings, religious festivals, street demonstrations, carnivals and parades. Drawing on the traditional rhythms of Rajasthan, as well as folk music and popular cinema, the Jaipur Maharaja Brass Band decorates its performances with striking improvisations. The burst of the horns and the percussions’ frenzied tempos guarantee a particularly festive atmosphere, which often serves as a springboard for the dancer’s steps and for the fakir’s feats.
Under the direction of the tabla player, Amrat Hussain, the Jaipur Maharaja Brass Band is made up of nine artists, all of whom were born into and trained in musician families. Their performance pulls you into an explosive universe of joy, dynamism and energy, in which Indian heritage pits itself against the rhythms of the world.
