FROM BOBO TO BENARES
Varanasi Ras & Barafolly
Concert (for the younger audience)
This concert of two parts will introduce the younger public to a new generation of musicians and dancers from India and Burkina Faso.
The kathak dancers from Benares will lead us through an expressive and colourful repertoire, dedicated to the Hindu divinities. To the sounds of percussion and the bells attached to their ankles, the twin dancers Saurav and Gaurav Mishra create sophisticated rhythms. Working with their co-students, the dancers Fanny ‘Meera’ and Priscilla ‘Gauri’, they will open up an art for us that is both exuberant and spectacular.
In Burkina Faso, dance, song, the balafon and djembé accompany all the major events in life: baptisms; marriages; funerals. The magical rhythms of the Coulibaly family and their mastery of the numerous traditional instruments will make for a jubilant occasion.
