Until recently, the art of the ashiks, the bards of Anatolia, was essentially a man’s domain. But things have changed and several female performers are now recognised as great artists - Mercan Erzincan is without a doubt one of them. She returns to Geneva with her brother Ufuk Şimşek, a remarkable kaval (flute) player. Together they perform sung poetry of mystical and wilful tones.
