JEW'S HARP AND SPOONS INITIATION
by Trần Quang Hải
Initiation for Children, 16h30-17h30, following the concert, free
Dàn môi (Jew’s-harp) workshop
The Vietnamese Jew’s-harp dàn môi is one of the oldest instruments of humanity: its originality is seen in the diversity of forms it takes and the pure, bewitching sounds that it produces. The instrument is played by making a strip of metal vibrate and using one’s own mouth as the resonance chamber - this makes it very natural to play and incredibly rich in sounds.
Muông (spoons) workshop
Playing spoons is popular with Vietnamese children. With two metal spoons, one can create simple and complex rhythms – it all depends on the player’s imagination. During this workshop, students can learn the basic rhythms (binary, ternary and combined) and tackle the basics of improvisation.
