This cinema-concert revives several surprising silent films from the beginning of the nineteenth century. Among these gems, the medium-length Aladdin and the Magic Lamp is a fantastic film - one where children play all the lead roles. The film plunges us into the heart of an imaginary medina. While a series of black and white burlesque scenes march across the screen, the two musicians Ollivier Leroy and Pierre-Yves Prothas coordinate on stage a joyful musical bazaar by drawing from the African traditions as much as electronic eastern music, rock and classical scores. This is an uplifiting cinema session filled with visual effects and acoustic intervals – an Indian harmonium and tribal songs even accompany the credits.
