Sangeeta Bandopadhyay is one of the greatest contemporary voices in khayal, a North Indian genre of classical singing. Thanks to the teachings of several masters from the schools (gharana) of Lucknow, Patiala and Indore, she has developed a unique expression - a synthesis of these three styles. Gifted with an exceptional voice, which covers more than three octaves, she is at ease in all types of Indian music. She performs Indian ragas with astonishing assurance, giving them a mix of imagination, originality, grace and respect, which is the mark of all the greats.
