MONIKA LAKATOS & ROMENGO

Gypsy songs of Hungary

BALKANS - 2d part // Alhambra

Mónika Lakatos: vocals
Mihály Rostás: vocals, guitar
Guszti János Lakatos: buccal bass, pitcher, vocals, dance
Mihály Rosonczy-Kovács: wooden percussion, vocals
Csaba Novák: double bass

Of a rare expressive intensity, singer Mónika Lakatos’s voice is exalted by an instrumental ensemble, where the guitar and double bass compete with household items such as milk churns and wooden spoons. Anchored in a tradition where vocal games, dance and polyphonic songs prevail, Romengo’s music reveals the vitality of Hungary’s gypsy culture. Artisans of celebration, these eternal travellers of indomitable talent offer us music that is both nostalgic and energetic.

This concert will be preceded by that of SVETLANA SPAJIC GROUP, Polyphonies of Serbia
