This concert reunites the great Sephardic singer Françoise Atlan and En Chordais, one of the best instrumental ensembles from Greece. The programme presents the jewels of two musical traditions which have coexisted for a long time in the town of Thessaloniki, at the crossroads of Greek, Jewish, Turkish and Arabic cultures. With its remote Andalusian origins, Judeo-Spanish music is a mosaic where the sacred and the profane, romance and epics all coexist. As for Rebetiko, its simultaneously ironic and moving verve has long served as an outlet for those excluded by a society without mercy.
