RYTHMES AND TIMBRES
Brass and percussions
Alhambra, Geneva
DOUBLE CONCERT, 2nd part
As Edmundo Carneiro, the initiator of this project, says, ‘in Brazil everything is but a vibration, the skins of the drums like the blast of the brass and the hearts of men’. Just like percussion, the brass instruments form an inherent part of Brazilian music, and it’s there, in this melting pot of a land, that the most beautiful fanfare in the world was born. Africa runs through Brazil and has transformed it: this programme revisits the maracatú rhythms of the Pernambuco region, the baião, xote and foro of Fortaleza, before finishing with the samba of Rio.
