SILSILA, ARABO-TURKISH MAQAM

Silsila (the chain): this term refers to the succession of initiation or transmission and, in this case, to the direct line from father to son. The ud duo of Marc and Thomas Loopuyt takes us into a mythical East, an East that has dissolved the divisions between the different regions of maqâm. To do this, they draw on North African, Near Eastern and Turkish influences, combining ancient compositions and modal improvisations in a series of perfectly coherent suites – sound structures skilfully built with the greatest respect for the rules of maqâm.
