WASLA, EGYPTIAN SUITES
Tarek Abdallah et Adel Shams El-Din (Egypte)
The wasla is a musical suite that belongs to the Egyptian tradition, similar to the North African nuba or the fasl of Syria and Turkey. It is characteristic of Nahda period, widely considered to be the golden age of Arab culture, which spanned from the nineteenth to the beginning of the twentieth century. Tarek Abadallah has chosen Wasla as the title for a personal creation that he performs this evening – a suite of Eastern compositions and improvisations, which percussionist Adel Shams El-Din helps to develop and embellish.
