FREE SONG OF IRAN

Manushan

Aïda and Babak went looking for a land that could offer them space for musical freedom far from Iran, their country of origin. They chose Europe, and France in particular. The reason for their exile came from an artistic impulse rather than a political stance. Like all Iranian female singers, Aïda did not have the right to perform in public, let alone in front of men.

These two artists knew how to weave the diverse music encountered in their host countries into their own, which would allow them to become closer to each other and their roots: it fed their own memories, and their music developed in light of the new repertoires encountered.

As such their music gathers Persian tradition, Manouche music, flamenco, Turkish and Azeri melodies, Latin and jazz rhythms in a mix that poetically cultivates the coincidences of language and style. A harmonious hybridization that the couple hopes to perform on an Iranian stage one day.

Aïda Nosrat : song, violin

Babak Amir Mobasher : guitar

Second part of the double concert "Roads of the East", preceded by "Between Iraq and Syria", by Ibrahim Keivo.

The double concert is preceded by the lecture of Reza Afchar Naderi, Persian songs: near and far.
