Artistic Director: Ravi Shankar Mishra

The Mishra family is one of the great dynasties of musicians and dancers from Benares. The children here are steeped in the sounds of the various instruments of the Indian tradition. From a young age and in accordance with their abilities, they begin their artistic apprenticeship with their elders. This method, called guru-shishya parampara, ensures the transmission of age-old knowledge and, through this, the aesthetic and human values that it conveys

Ravi Shankar Mishra, who has been collaborating with the ADEM for over twenty years, is an exceptional kathak dancer and a great tabla player, and is well known on the international scene. Today he dedicates the majority of his time to teaching his children and other young members of his family, in addition to foreign students, who have come to immerse themselves in the artistic atmosphere of Benares. Accordingly, the programme that we welcome involves two young Swiss dancers, who have excelled in kathak thanks to long stays with Ravi and his family.
